Looking to upgrade my SN85, loved it to pieces but its time to move on.

When i do these upgrades i tend to go pretty bleeding edge because i want it to last me a couple of years.

Heres what i have
Shuttle XPC SD37P2 Aluminium Barebones System - Intel Core 2 Duo (LGA775) £255.99(£300.79)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (£115.14) £97.99
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail £167.99(£197.39)
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 Pro Extreme SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £129.99(£152.74)
Samsung SpinPoint T HD501LJ 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

What do you think ? will the graphics card fit (I know thats a common question with shuttles !

Rig is for gaming and running FAH plus all the usual stuff, will have vista ultimate on it too :)

Have the same rig mate (bar i have a 6300) + Vista super duper edition...all good :)
ENJOY IT!! :D

edit: you need to update your bios if it's not the latest version, to get the most out of your memory

personally I'd leave the geil [based upon a few reports of incompatibility on other boards]

secondly that video card [assuming the heatpipe will actually fit] may block off your adjacent pci-e slot, not a big issue unless you intend putting a terratec tv card in there

thirdly, maybe consider an sd39 as it has a pci slot instead of a 90% useless pci-e slot

again I stress these are my personal opinions, weigh up all the answers and make the choice that suits you

Yes, try to get hold of a SD39P2, they have a 16x PCIe slot and a std PCI slot so much more flexible. Otherwise I think they are the same as the SD37P2.

If you went for a std Sapphire 1950 Pro it would leave the PCI slot enough room for future upgrades.

Ok, i'll look into the other version. I won't be putting a TV card in there and it is mainly for gaming with portability, plus I really like shuttles :)

I couldn't find one so went with my original spec bar the graphics card which i dropped back to a non heat pipe 256 version which should mean the second slot is free still.

Ordered it all yesterday but it wasn't sent :(

I already have a Lightscribe drive that i will move over but this may change as its crossed my mind that i could sell the old shuttle as a complete unit to someone in my family.

My apologies, you are correct, I can't post the link to the forum but here's a quote:

Here’s Tuan’s review at this site where he mentions the 40% utilization. However, note that this was using the 64-bit drivers. In a 32-bit windows (MCE), utilization was back down to 15%. I suspect it was simply immature 64-bit drivers—they were updated as recently as Feb 1 of this year, so they may be fixed. (Also, note that this wasn’t at idle, it was while transferring data at 924 Mb/s.)

would have tried to hunt down a V2 if I was you mate, the V1 is an inferior model, with only 2GB 667 support and no C2E support, the V2 has 4GB 800Mhz support and C2E support and costs the same amount, the SD39P2 is an update of the V2 from 2 pci-e to 1 pci-e and 1 pci, everything else is same as V2.

sorry can you point me in the direction where it says the v1 only supports 2 gig ?, I have 4 sticks [4 gig] running in mine and I've used the boot ini mod as listed on shuttle website for it not reporting the ram accurately.

Seems to be working fine for me

sorry, brain got a lil ahead of my hands there, i mean 2GB can be run at 667 or now with new bios 800 but over 2GB wont run above 667, or at least so the guys over at ******* say, i got V2 so i havent tried it out. mind you its a moot point as the V2 supports upto 8GB.
