Guys i need some advicce, turned on my PC at work this morning and got a '0x0' error when booting from my sammy 128gb SSD drive. Tried W7 disk repair options & chkdsk /f both of which failed.

So i put it in an XP machine and just before the login screen XP repaired the drive.

The drive now appears to be partitioned in to 'System Reseved E:' 100mb and 'F:' for the rest of the drive.

The user folder has dissapeard! i can see the files under Recuva but in a renamed directory.. i.e \dir0003.chk\documents\letters

Is there any way to rebuild the user & directories or do i need to recover the files i need then re-install windows?

Also whats the chances that the disk will be corrupt and fail in the future.

The reserved partition is created by Window 7 for keeping secure copies of system DLLs.

This sounds more like software problem, possibly malware, than a hardware issue. ASFAIK when an SSD fails you will either be able to read but not write or get no access at all if the controller has gone. I guess a firmware bug could *maybe* cause it, but that's not too likely IMO.

Personally I'd recover the files and re-install Windows 7. There's no telling what other damage has been done to the installation and recoving from it will almost certainly be more trouble than it's worth. And keep a backup.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a restore image from 10/02 and havent installed anything since, so im going to recover the files and install windows.

One thing i did notice was that the drive had slowed down a bit tested with crystal disk a few weeks back and got 140mb sec write, having said that iv'e beed using it daily since November so maybe its time for a wype as i can't upgrade the FW none of the PCs i have access to can see it with the DSRD tool.
