Anyone use them?

Started using the source one, not easy to get your head around but my skills are improving! lol

Anyone know of some that are a little more advanced? As in DX11 or anything?

Hammer isn't meant to be the easiest editor to get to grips with. You may want to look at something like Unity instead - much more user friendly, especially if you're new to this kind of thing.

I realise that - im doing ok. Made a pretty decent rip off of hang em high from the old skool halo 1..

Im not fluent in c++ or anything though which kinda makes me feel like im missing something?

EDIT has anyone tried this new cryengine one? Is it on the same sort of level as Hammer?

Do you know any coding languages?

You'll be fairly limited in terms of what you can do unless you're willing to learn at least some kind of scripting. Unity has support for c# and js scripting so once again that may be easier.

UDK has support for a gui 'scripting' editor thing that I forget the name of. Could be even better for you if you're not a coder :)

Afraid not - TBH i just downloaded hammer and taught myself from wiki etc then got into it.

Im not against learning scripting the main limiting factor being time with work/life/actually playing the games etc..

I'd really recommend trying another editor to be honest. It's great that you've learnt your way around this and from the sounds of it without much external help - it will put you in good stead for learning another editor much more quickly. Unity has a much easier editor and the scripting in it is simpler so it will require less time to learn. Just a suggestion though :)
