Hello,

I've got a single Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) disk in my desktop, do theses results seem correct ?

Its been in my desktop for around 7 months and been running fine for basic web/office stuff.

I've just started using VMware workstation for testing virtual machines and when installing or using vm's my system performance is terrible :(

Task Manager saying disk usage 100%, memory and CPU are good.

Just wondering if my disk stats are under par ?? or maybe just no good for running multiple VM's.

Thanks Ben :)

Thats shame, my disc is much slower than your's and we got the same one's.

Also I will do firmware update tomorrow and if this will work I will post new results.
I think it might be because my HDD is split to two partitions. Anyway I am using SSD which is 2.5 times faster than HDD and this is amazing.

thanks for the reply, at least I know the benchmarks are acceptable.

poor disk performance when running vm's is annoying though :(

Have you assigned enough RAM to the VM's? or are they having to hammer the HDD for virtual memory? VM machines tend to run a stack of RAM for this reason...

I run several Hyper-V VM’s and put the main virtual drive on an SSD and a second virtual drive on a mechanical drive. The difference is huge, A Windows 8.1 pro/Windows Server 2012 R2 VM boots in about 4 seconds. I only have Visual Studio 2013 pro and SQL Server Management studio installed on them. I set the drive size to 48GB and have about 10GB free after everything is installed and updated.
