My random pauses/stuttering (Well, I mean my MBP's, obviously) have completely disappeared since binning the 500Gb 5400RPM unit. What's odd, is that I've put that drive into my Mac Mini (current edition) and that's working fine and not showing any of the performance issues I was getting with my MBP.
Anyways, thought it may be of interest.
