Seagate Barcuda hd not detected

hey;

I was fixing my friends computer. he has AMD atholon computer, somebody built it for him. He has installed windows xp on it but it take soooo long to load. The walpaper loads, but everything else loads after like 5 mins. I tried to install new windows on it but when I try to setup new windows on it, it shows error: "There is not hard drive in your computer, so windows can't be installed". What is wrong with it? windows is installed on the hd, then why it can't detect it.

I think it is a SCSI hd. since it only has thin wire connected to it.

So what should I do?

Sorry I'm having some difficulty figuring out what is going on here so can you tell me if I am correct in my summary. Your friend has got a computer(a single hard drive in it) and Windows takes a long time to load? How are you trying to install Windows? Does the hard drive get recognised by bios?

If you haven't already you might want to try another SATA cable but I'd need a bit more information to help further I think.

SCSI hard drives aren't all that common on normal desktop computers and are pretty expensive, if there is only one thin wire I don't know what is going on, you need both power and data cables for all hard drives I know of.

No, the drive does not show up in the bios. However, there is windows xp installed on this computer, which takes long time to load, but "windows xp is installed". I was trying to install windows xp by setting up boot sequece to load from cd-rom. when I press enter, where it asks me to "clean install of windows", then it says that windows cannot be installed because there is no hard drive found in this computer.

He has SCSI hard drive. I also have updated the drivers using the cd came with computer, but still no help.

Ok if it is really a SCSI hard drive then you would need to install the drivers for the SCSI controller, Windows install sequence offers you a prompt like "Press F6 to install SCSI/SATA drivers" which lasts about 5-10 seconds while install process is starting.
