A mate just came round with his Laptop and External HD. Says its fine on his old XP machine, but it gives him hell on this laptop.
I tried to get his HD to work on my PC to get his files backed up for him, but I cannot get it to work on my PC either.
Listening to it, I have heard it very quietly spinning up and then it slicks and its silent, however, for the last half hour or so, or messing, there is ZERO! as if its dead.
Now, I bought a couple of Seagate edternal drives a while back, and I just ripped the HDs out and so the cases were surplus to requirements, however, I did use them for some time, and I also had a few niggles, but they worked, and so, I dug one of them out with one of my own HDs and that too, has been a bit of a swine to sort out???
Seagate tools cannot find the drives, and nothing shows up in the device manager ... For all I get, I might as well be wishing upon a star for all the luck Im getting.
He swears blind that it worked perfectly on this Laptop in Vista, but he has upgraded it to 7 and thats when it stopped working. I asked him could it just be bad timing and he says no, it works great on his XP machine.
But that does not explain why mine also does the very same thing???
Anyone have any clues?
We have been on google and we have followed a load of links, but they did nothing to help us.
