SSHDs are now available for your desktop computer. Get the speed and kick of an integrated solid state drive (SSD) with the massive capacity of a desktop hard drive – all at a surprisingly low price!

SSHD technology uses the right amount of ultra-fast NAND flash (the same type used in SSDs) to increase system performance. Seagate’s Adaptive Memory ™ technology effectively identifies the most frequently-used data and stores it in the NAND flash. The results give you greatly improved boot times, application loads and overall system responsiveness.

SSHDs fuse the strength of SSD and HDD into one affordable and powerful device. You’ll be surprised at how little you have to pay to get SSD-like performance in your desktop system.

And since SSHD fuses the strengths of both HDD and SSD technologies, you get the combined reliability of both in a solid state hybrid drive product.

- SATA-III Backwards compatible with SATA-II
- Capacity: 1TB
- Built in SSD type NAND MLC 8GB
- Cache: 64MB
- Interface: SATA 6Gb/s
- Spin Speed: 7200RPM
- Warranty: 3 Years

The descriptions show "Built in SSD type NAND MLC 8GB" for the 3.5" drives, is this the same for the 2.5" ones or are they different?

I have had a Seagate 480GB SSD for about a year now. Ultra reliable storage and quick too. Cost £169.

Why none here?

because this is a post about SSHD's and Seagate and WD SSD's are grossly overpriced and can't compete with the NAND manufacturers like Samsung who offer solid performance reliability for excellent pricing.

You either get an SSD or you don't, none of this SSHD rubbish :p

I thought that, I use my 4tb SSHD as a plex server and to store back ups of games. transfer speeds are good and ultimately until 4tb SSD is sub £200 an sshd is the best compromise for speed/capacity/cost

at present both have 8GB Cache this will change in the future but I can't tell you much about that at the moment as I don't know much.

Are these any good? I've never really looked into them but fancy a 1TB/2TB drive for my steam games and uPlay stuff and backups?

I have a main OS 250GB SSD and a game 250GB SSD but with my key games on there not much space remains.

The price seems pretty good, what is the performance like?

According to user benchmarks, not that different. Take a look on http://hdd.userbenchmark.com/

But I guess the 8GB cache will make a minor difference.

It's not a perfect alternative to a mech but over small file transfers it's certainly an improvement.

If you're moving 60GB then you're going past the nand but if you're moving 1GB it will copy at better speeds than normal mechs

well a size increase is on the horizon but it's not even out of initial RnD as soon as i know more i'll let people know.

I had one of these a little while ago and tbh I didn't find it that much different from a tradition HDD in everyday performance. Would rather just spend the extra and get get a slightly smaller ssd if you want performance and speed.

I use them for my ESX cluster and they deffo make a difference.. For the small price difference on the 4TB its a no brainer, but I do think 32GB would be better for drives this size, looking forward to seeing the new ones..
