Hi guys,

A friend of a friend has approached me about SEO'ing my website.

Now, I'm all for it...I've been ignoring the phone calls and emails I get regarding it but having it done will hopefully improve my business flow.

Now, I've seen previous examples of her work and the results are clear...it works, and lots can vouch for her so I know shes not full of crap.

Anyway, heres her email to me...

Hey Jake,

Had a look at your site & there's lots of stuff that can be done (without changing the structure/layout) to ensure you are found, ramp up your ratings & generally get you out there way more. The written content does need developing but I can do that as part of it. I usually charge £35 a page but can do mates rates and throw in off site optimisation too & build up your linking.

If you want to go ahead let me know & we can fathom out a suitable strategy - I don't know if you want to target a specific area, concentrate on weddings etc or what.

Now my question is, being a bit ignorant to it...how much would be a reasonable rate for something like this....I know work like this varys A LOT depending on site size and time required ofcourse, but on average? My site has 10 pages if that helps...

Cheers for any input guys, I don't mind paying a few quid as it should pay for itself with the work it brings in but I just want a rough figure in my head :)

Thanks,
Jake

It really does depend largely on what keywords you're going for and how highly ranked your competition is.

My firm is very good at SEO and we can see decent results quite quickly for some keywords, but for extremely competitive keywords, it's often taken 6-24 months to get excellent results (within top 1-10). Unfortunately, I only deal with front end development and design so don't really know the details.

Sounds like a good rate to be honest. Seo is a weird beast to be honest, it can demand huge amounts of money because without it, your website may not be seen.

If she is proven and gets results then go for it. SEO isn't hard but there is a knack to it and there are plenty of poor SEO companies out there.

Ask her some sample searches /websites she has got good results on.

Anyone can say they 'do seo', but few can actually provide you with case studies and examples of their work.

Also ask exactly what off page stuff she is going to do - as if done badly, it can have a negative effect on your website.

Will do mate, cheers :)

I'm confident she can do what she says, I know her partner has had their website SEO'd by her and now it comes up high in search results etc.

Thanks though, sent her an email last night asking for some more info on it all, will let you know the reply.

Its not quite that simple matey, getting good seo for an uncommon search phrase is easy. Its when you try to get placed for something with a lot of competition that you sort the men from the boys.

Find out what sites she has done and what keywords have been targeted and pop them up on here. Im sure she is very good but there are a lot of dodgy people who say they are gurus of seo and have little real talent.
