Search Engines - How do i get a site recognised?

Hi all,

In the process of creating a business website, but once its finished, whats the best way to get the site submitted to a large number of search engines?

Any tips to try and get it well listed? I have no idea and thought i'd ask some of the experts here

Get other websites that are listed (preferably ones ranked highly) to link to your website with relevant keywords. The next time the page is crawled, it will find the link to yours and your site should get indexed. I believe that is the case for Google, and most likely a lot of other search engines too.

my advice is to get a basic holding page up with all the info on what the company does, emphasis on keywords, and get it submitted before the site is ready to go live.

That way it will get indexed and start appearing on the search engines.

META tags and a description needed for the main page

Get a Sitemap, then to google webmaster tools where you enter your sitemap to let it crawl your site

Some Adwords if you can afford it

Popular forums with your link in sig

Link exchange

Add google analytics

Taken me about 3 weeks and I am now searchable, ranking 1st for some terms! ^_^

I was under the impression that META tags do pretty much nothing when contributing to search rankings now, and rankings are based on content and links. I've never used them anyway

They do no harm, though

Got my page hit #1 searching for Motorcycle Touring that way, though.
