for some reason my right click search and edit search options have gone missing. I have the search box at the top to search for files but I prefer the normal search box as I can specify to search for text inside files etc. any ideas how to get it back?

If you are running Windows Vista SP1 beta, the Search link on the Start menu has been removed. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=941946
If you are not, then it has somehow been unchecked, right click Taskbar > click Properties > Start Menu (tab) > Customize > scroll down and make sure the 'Search' option is checked.
