We bought our first house just over a year ago, and major construction work has just started in the surrounding area. The council is demolishing 60 council houses to make way for about 90. The playground that both my kids use and love is being turned into site offices and a loading/unloading bay, which is going to be there for 5 years!

As you can imagine, massive trucks rolling down the road (my boys (both under 5) cycle/walk to school with their mum), disruption to roads and traffic, noise, etc is really going to impact our lives.

What I'm curious about is why the searches that came back before we bought the property didn't reveal any of this?

The closest house to be demolished is 60m away. From the end of our garden to the hoarding they've put up is less than 30m. There is lots of mention in the Local Authority search of old planning permissions granted, and road schemes within 200m, but not a mention of this. We can live with it but I can't help feeling like something is amiss.

That's because the search reveals those as standard.

It doesn't search against parcels of land outside the chosen property unless you specifically request it, which it's very unlikely you would especially if there were already houses there. It's unlikely anything was amiss, more unlucky.
