SearchIndexer.exe Massive Memory Usage

Currently the searchindexer.exe process is using 2.5-3.5 GB of my 4GB memory, causes my system to slow to a crawl. Any ideas why?

I killed it once, came back at the same level, killed it again and it seems to have settled down for now.

Well that is a thread about 100% CPU usage but the troubleshooting steps are the exact same for your issue. Sorry - should have explained that

If it were a service then it could be turned off, but seemingly it's a process you have running.

What antivirus are you using?
Kaspersky 2009 used to do this.

I'm using NOD32

Windows Search is the service name if you want to turn it off.
