Yes I know that Vista is supposed to be the best OS for searching but am I the only one that finds it harder than XP?

First of all there's the indexing which means you should be able to find files and programs faster. Well, if I type in the program I want or the document, sometimes Vista can't see it. I then have to manually search which is even harder. The lack of an 'up' button makes things a real pain and sometimes I'll really have to search around in order to find my document by going to the C icon and fishing around.

I think the main problem with the whole thing is that MS were proud of how easy it was to find stuff by TYPING IT IN. I find this really irritating since when searching around for documents I'm used to using mouse alone. I don't want to have to be bothered to type it in a seach box. Yes, I know it's not an immense amount of effort but I find it less convenient.

I won't uninstall Vista since I can't be bothered to and I like the look and feel, but is anyone else finding searching in Vista not all it's c[r]acked up to be?

I actually prefer the search in Vista, its not as good as coppernic but i love just being able to press the windows key and then start typing, a second later i have found what i was looking for. As long as it has been indexed

I like the idea of start button and type in principle but I don't really ever use search as all of my files are in folders with shortcuts on my quicklaunch anyway. It's quicker to click them, than search.

I do agree that explorer can seem a little more difficult to navigate than XP.

They were so sure you would never ever go or install something outside c:\Users\[yourusername] that the search practically trips and falls over itself. Meanwhile stupidity of default settings is just immense - by default users don't see advanced options and some of the options are missing in classic view - your typical point and click user in the office will try to find a file and will never find it because mounted network drives aren't indexed by default, he will also be confused as the search will show him matches in files and emails he deleted earlier that day just because index is few hours old. This is, by all accounts, every IT support guys nightmare - "I deleted file with shift key but I need it back, I searched for it and Windows says it there, but I can't open it by double clicking it".
