Windows XP Search takes at least a minute to find a file on a mapped network drive when other machines can find it a lot quicker. I believe the indexing service doesn't actually support mapped drives but the other computer was able to find files on the network share in an instant.

Anyone any ideas why?

I know this is sort of a thread hijack and just want a quick response (if you wnat me to post a new topic then please tell me and i'll rearrange it.) What is a mapped drive?

It's a network share that's mapped to a drive letter.

had the same issue at work ... was the provider order, was some novell and terminal services the top 2 instead of Microsoft Windows Network ... put that to the top and all mapped drives and shares started loading instantly, instead of having to wait 30-60 secs to appear ... give it a whirl

That's not really what I meant, when using the file and folders search its taking an eternity to come back with any results, but the only network service is Microsoft Windows Network.
