Hi guys!

So just got this today and been using it for the past 2 hours and noticed the fan doesn't spin at all. Even if i press the hybrid button. The psu gets pretty warm/hot and you can feel the heat coming out the back of the psu but no fan spin still.

I tried it at different loads, gaming and idle and no fan spin.

Is this normal? Do i just need to wait for it to hit a certain temperature before it activates the fan?

I'm pretty sure its hitting 600w with the 9900k and 3090 but theres still no fan spin.

Odd... and a little concerned.

I personally would be concerned. And likely starting the RMA/swap process.

When a 1600W+ PSU's semi-passive (no fan operation) range is "up to" 600W before the fan spins up, I seriously doubt a 850W PSU would wait until 600W before attempting to spin the fan. And... *checks the Seasonic site*, yep, it's 30% of the rated PSU wattage before it fires up the fan. So 30% of 850W being 255W, and the RTX 3090 being able to pull 300W on its own when in use, means you should have had the fan spinning ages ago.

You "did" get it from a retailer right? Or at least, got a receipt for it? Would be hard to replace/RMA otherwise...

That sounds faulty, as I understand the fan should always spin when not in Hybrid mode.

The good news is that Seasonic RMA is very good indeed, it's all done on-line and via email, they should just send you a new sealed unit.

I spoke to a seasonic rep on another forum and he’s confirmed the fan is faulty. Said it should at least spin on start up and with the hybrid mode off. Since it doesn’t for either of those, safe to say its knackered!

got this from an etailer so can return hassle free at least and get another unit.
