Hi

I've just recently bought a Seasonic S12 500W psu and am a little alarmed to see that the fan isn't spinning at all.

The system isn't particularly power hungry and it certainly wont draw anywhere close to 500W, but should the fan stop completely? It doesn't seem to be too hot and the system's running fine.

I guess that would be one way of troubleshooting, but i'm not really keen on overheating my psu, even if it does prove to be faulty. :)

ok but you'd only need to put it up 10 degrees or something. As long as you can keep your hand in the way you'd be able to see it. Lemme crawl under my desk to check mine is spinning...

just realised fan is on the other side of the psu lol, will chek when I find crewdriver later. Damn I need some thumb screws!

Mine has never stopped spinning, even with no load.
Put it on a desk, plug it in, jump start it and try the hair dryer or let it heat up a little, could be a new revision, but i doubt it.

Not according to OCUK support who advise that

Keep a note of that advise (However you can) and then if it dies/takes components with it call ocuk up with your grumpy head on, afterall you only did what they told you to do.

lol the fan has still got to spin even when idel
bad advise from whoever told you that.
No it hasn't. It would work just as well if the fan didn't spin at idle/low temperatures, plenty of psus don't have fans at all. There wouldn't be much point tho as this fan is considered silent at very low speeds anyway so as there would be no audible difference between it being on or off at low temperatures they decided to have it stay on.

However, unless the new revision has a revised fan controller, which according to the reviews it hasn't, the fan in this psu has not been designed to stop spinning at low temperatures.

Get in contact with ocuk or seasonic to make sure before you rma it tho.
