Seasonic S12 Owners

lo all.

i'm thinking of upgrading my PSU from a Hiper Type-R 580w to a Seasonic S12.
i've not been happy with the build quality on my Hiper's (i've gone through two) and in the quest of getting a quieter PC the Seasonic's seem to be the best thing around.

how quiet are these PSU's?
are they stable, reliable and good for overclocking?

and would i need a 500w or a 600w ?
i'm running
4000+ @ 2.6GHz
2GB G.Skill ZX
7800GT @ 490/1180
DFI LanParty SLi-D
74GB Raptor and a 120GB Seagate Barracuda

only thing worth noting is that i could very well be getting a second 7800GT in the future, depending how badly Vista sways me towards DX10.

In the >400W it is one of the quietest ones you can get, the only one even more quiet is a 430W Seasonic one: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article28-page6.html

Also have a look at the S12-500/600 review looks like the difference between the 500W and 600W isn't that big.

I got a S12 500W and I'm pleased with it, even though it's like swatting a fly with a sledge hammer on my system

Fan noise? What fan noise!? Put it this way; if I stop either my amber 120mm case fan slowed to 80% with Speedfan OR my Zalman gfx cooler @ 5v silent mode for a moment, I can't hear my psu fan. Seasonic use 120mm fan @ 760 ish rpm..

I wouldn't get your hopes up about future proofing with one though.. I don't know when >ATX2.2 will be out, but since PCs require more power than ever these days, I think it's safe to say 'within a few years'.

That aside, if you can afford one, I can recommend the 500w.

Edit: the 500w/600w support PCIe gfx cards, lower specs don't
I also have a freezer 64 pro in my system, but I'm fairly sure my psu creates the least ammount of noise.

cheers for that, and the links... completely forgot about that site (i've been getting most of my info about silent parts from there lol).

any body give me an idea of whether i'd need the 500w or 600w PSU please?

my 2p:
Single 7800GT = 500W
SLI'd 7800GT's = 600W

But I do not know the price difference between them, if it is a lot maybe get a 500W

hmmm...

500w = £90
600w = £100ish

would probably be easier to fork out the extra tenner and get the 600w

Good choice, I have one in my second PC (430w variant) got it nice and cheap for £41 and it is silent. Considering every case fan is either at 5v or 7v thats pretty impressive.

got my Medusa headphones today (already hugely impressed) and have got an AKASA case fan (120mm sold on here) and the Zalman VF900 on the way too to quieten down the 7800GT

should make the pc a fair wad quieter

Got the 600W, very pleased so far (I've owned to Hyper's previously, one blew)

Build quality is excellent, you can tell by its weight that it's a quality component.

Stable + silent, can't ask for much more really!

I second this i have a Seasonic 600 powering my rig, specs in sig, and never had any probs with it, its rock solid.
