Hey all

I know many of you here like to tinker and have usually helped other posters, I had the unfortunate event of my leon just deciding to give up life at some red lights on Friday (good weekend not!)

I had to get it towed to a local garage of course they can't look at it till after Easter, fair enough.

The RAC gave me the error code, I'm wondering if any of you have a had something similar and avg costs to re
pair? As it's part of VAG group the dsg box is used in many but I'm still fearing 1-3k bill. Or if any of you have repaired something like this in general or experience really.

Unfortunately financing a newer car isn't a possibility, this one is 2014 with 55k miles on clock so wanted to use it many more years yet tbf as I don't even do at most 5k miles a year

The errors were p17bf00 and p189c00, p084100

In essence seems to related to transmission fluid and or pump on gearbox.

When it was in drive and handbrake off it wouldn't budge with foot on accelerator however in park and handbrake up if put foo down you'd hear engine going so I sense engine is okay as it revs etc just doesn't other way or move when it's in drive etc

I wouldn’t take it to a local garage, I would immediately take it to a gearbox specialist.

You will end up with a big bill if it needs reconditioning

For context, I’ve just had a gearbox reconditioned on a Fiesta, due to 2nd and 3rd gear failing, and it came to £2,200 with labour. Thankfully paid for by the dealership I bought it from.

I would call a DSG Specialist/German Specialist to see what they advise, it could be fairly common to them.

Based on the codes they may be able to list a couple of potentials and give you a rough idea of what your going to be faced with.

For context as my partner had a Mechatronic Unit replaced on the DQ200 7Speed Box under warranty by a VW Dealer.

£800/900 for the Mech Unit - Including labour total on invoice was £1200-£1300 by the dealer.

Unfortunately I only had 1 recovery on my breakdown cover so it went to place I usually go to for mot etc they do however work for main dealers at times as I know jct600 group send cars to them occasionally so I'm assuming they will have an idea.

They did some lovely work on a nice mustang.

I would hope if they can't do the work as needs specialist they would say so and not cause potentially more damage
