how can i tell if my HS is correctly seated. i have the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro for LGA775.

had trouble fitting it lastnight and had to remove it. its a PITA to fit, probably becasue its my first time fitting one.

it seems to be sitting correctly but i am still able to turn it side to side.

any advice on how to fit one of these things?

the system isnt complete yet, need ram and GPU so i havnt turned it on yet

fan was taken off yes, the pins are a crap idea if u ask me they dont seem to work very well at all, for me anyway, they didnt seem to want to loosen so i could remove the heatsink from the board

EDIT - come to think of it i dont know why i didnt fit it outside of the case, would probably have been easier

you'll still be able to move it slightly from side to side this is normal, even if it is seated correctly
and yes they are a pain and easier, imo to fit to the board prior to putting the board in the case and then doing it

while we are on the subject of freezer pro's i would liek to slip in a small question.
Yesterday i disable fan control for my freezer pro so it ran at full whack which was impressive as it kept it as low as 13c while idling but the fan sounds like its "hunting" by this i meen its showing to be keeping a fairly constant speed but if i listen it just sounds like its not keeping a constant speed.
Is this normal
Thx

Depends what settings you have in your bios. If its on performance it will run full at 2500 rpm, which in my op is a pain noise wise.

Optimal is best for me. Oh and yes its a major pain to fit, check you havent bent any of the pins, as its easy to do mind.

cant do anything ATM - in work, dont think i will get a chance to look tonight but im nearly 100% sure the pins are fine and are in the holes on the mobo.

by looking at the pins there doesnt seem to be much holding the HSF onto the board, the pins look short if you know what i mean.

I fitted my on tuesday and the trick is to test pushing the pins down when holding the heatsink in your hand (its tricky). The corners actually turn which then lock to keep it tight against the cpu. If you look at each corner there will be an arrow pointing in the direction you need to turn it when pushed into the motherboard.

Hope this helps.
