Hi, I need a new seatpost for my son's Giant Defy road bike. He is 5'7" and purchased a small. He's reached a point where he can't lengthen the seatpost anymore without exceeding the minimum insertion line by 2cm. The diameter is 30.9mm, what size do you recommend I should replace it with? I'm not sure about the current length of the seatpost. Many thanks.

How old is he and how much more growing does he have to do? :p

Remove and measure the existing seatpost, buy a longer one.

If the fit for the rest of the bike is still fine it'll do until he needs a larger frame size.

Thanks BennyC, he's 18 now so I don't think he's going to grow any more.

How is anyone else supposed to know  :D

Just measure it, buy one that is the same diameter but longer. By the sounds of it, he'll be needing a bigger bike soon though.

What he said on both counts.

The seat post may be short but the reach must also be getting too short.
