Second 5970, or 5870

Dont think so, they are a little more expensive in a bang for buck capacity, but they handle AA much better (not sure about drivers these days but ATI gives me enough problems) and the OP obviously has money to spend.

Thought we were looking at Q1 2011 for high end 6*** series...

Yer ATI drivers suck seriously bad on 5970 at the moment. I get BSOD when booting my pc for the first time during the day, after a restart or two it becomes stable. I guess windows must reinstall the display adapter after the driver fails a few times, or maybe the CCC alters something

I had that on one build i did for some & then i changed the ram & it was rock solid even tho the previous ram was memtest & bench stable the motherboard just didn't fully like the ram.

Interesting.....I was thinking to buy a 4GB pair (8GB) to replace my current G.Skill RAM. I'll see how it goes when I reinstall windows onto the SSD's and if it's still playing up I'll see towards getting some more overtime to get some good Corsair merchandise.

It was a nightmare as i thought the gfx card was faulty & the PC was going back & forth 4 times.

Memtest, Prime95, 3dMark06, furmark..ect all stable but fired up WOW & ATI driver restarts from 2 to 8 times a day.

Changed the ram & Bingo.

That the only time i have every had ATI driver stability issues, but keep in mind that i only deal with AMD systems.

Hmm, you think running the system with just a single module would yield some clues?

Well when i put that system together i would just about get into the bios before it locked up so i used 1 stick so that i could get in long enough to up the ram voltage.

Maybe if i pushed 1.70-1.75 through the ram it would have been fully compatible but seeing as its not my system i would not risk it.

You have nothing to lose trying the with 1 stick.

Okay's, just put the Voltage up to 1.65. These modules are rated at that Voltage so hopefully things will be a little more stable. I just wish I had a way to keep an eye on the Temp of the RAM Modules.....

I found dual 5970s are pretty useless to be honest. I sold up and went down the nvidia route. Whilst I still had a 5970 I hooked up a 5870 to try and found that it ran near the same but with minimum frames sitting slightly higher, average frames a smudge lower as were te max. The minimum frame rate makes games more playable so opt In for a 5970+5870

Thanks for the input. What resolution was you running? Dual 5970's will really only come into play on massive resolutions (5760x1080 as with mine).

Keep an eye out for this thread. I should have some results for thursday

I have found this thread an enjoyable read, it appears as thought you have thrown out most of the good advice and gone, pretty much, with what you were planning to do in the first place; hmm..

I've taken most of the advice posted in this thread. Like, those who actually have experience with eyefinity recommended dual 5970's.

It's kind of how the MP's tell the prime minister what would be best, but he still does what he thinks is best and takes onboard what people have told him.

I did say from the beginning that I just wanted a little info on what people thought would be best.
