second 6970 or gtx580 ?

not sure which way to go tbh but below is some of the ways i might spend the £300 i will have on friday

1: get a second 6970 for a crossfire setup
2: get a gtx580
3: get a second gtx480 + a 990fx mobo

which of the above will provide the better performance ? , not really into multi gfx cards nowdays .

psu = coolermaster Silent Pro Modular 1000W so should be enough no matter which i choose

yes i own both as i got the asus gtx480 when my 6970 was rma'ed , whats happened to all the 6970's ? everywhere i look they are out of stock

Low sale due to the 6950 unlocking or bitmining I'm guessing. I say go for a second 480 if you don't mind the noise and heat. The refurb ones are only 161 so they're a bargain.

why does every body say they are hot and loud (gtx480) ? , mine is not as loud as my 6970 or as hot . yes the refurb ones i have been looking at , just need a mobo that supports sli for my phenom II 1090t

In pure general performance terms 6970 CF > 480 SLI > 580.

I cant be sure what to say to someone wanting to buy a 990FX unless they are 100% definitely getting a BD.

with the 6970's being in short supply how would a 6950 be in crossfire with a 6970 ? , looked everywhere but not found any benchmarks of this type of crossfire setup

Running a 6970 + 6950 myself, if you overclock the 6950 then there looks to be very little difference
