Oh noes, another one of these! :o

Looking to work closer to home, cutting my mileage so I'm contemplating getting something bigger. 90% of the time I'm on the motorway so something long wheelbase, ideally for under £3,000.

I saw a rather handsome Mondeo Edge today - does the styling between models vary? Are my eyes deceiving me or does it look somewhat more like the ST220 than the other variations? I know it's a special edition.

Anything else I should look at/possibly test drive? Maybe something not as big? I was also looking at the Skoda Octavia and Volvo S60(I'd be killed if I bought one of these, though).

Thanks :)

Like Mr Fox says the Edge is pretty much base spec, it does come with:

* Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)
* Ford Easy Fuel capless refuelling
* Thatcham approved security
* Air conditioning
* Cruise control
* CD/radio
* 'Quickclear' heated windscreen
* 'Home Safe Headlights'
* Trip computer
* Leather steering wheel
* Intelligent Protection System including driver's knee airbag

Then you've got the Zetec with the above and:

* 16" alloy wheels
* Air conditioning with dual-zone EATC
* Front fog lights
* 2-way power driver?s seat adjust
* Power front and rear windows
* Leather gear shift

Then you've got the Titanium with the above and:

* 17" 15-spoke alloy wheels
* FordConvers+ instrument cluster with colour display
* Rear seat air conditioning vents
* Sony 6CD audio system
* Power-operated, heated and folding door mirrors with puddle lamps
* Sports seats
* Front passenger?s seat lumber adjustment
* Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
* Titanium? finish interior trim details
* Leather-wrapped handbrake
* Front interior ambient lighting
* Front footwell lights
* Brushed finished front door opening scuff plates
* Front and rear carpet mats
* Blue glass
* Silver painted upper and lower grilles, lower grille with chrome surround
* Chrome finish on upper doorline

And finally the Titanium X with the above and:

* 'FordPower' starter button
* Alcantara trim with heated front seats
* Halogen Adaptive Front Lighting System
* Variable heated front heats
* Auto lighting and rain-sensing wipers

//Edit post - why would you be killed if you bought a Lolvo S60?

Different rear bumper I think, probably different wheels. Honda accord or Mazda 6 also worth a look, especially if styling is important. Saab 95 for a brilliant value nicely styled boat

It's also a step up in terms of costs as well - it's a car from a higher class and costs more to run as a result. Plus, it'll be older.

Of course but he didn't specify anything about running costs

Otherwise how about a 99 Mercedes S500 with 250k on it?

Oh common, a decent 95 is one step up in terms of running costs and in general. It wasn't one of those whacky ocuk mad suggestions that's 20 steps up from what was asked for

Excellent, I've been looking for an overview of the levels. Funnily, I searched google and the first result was a thread on here! :p

The other half says now isn't the time to be driving around in an old mans car! I rather like it, more so the newer models.

Mazda 6 for under £3k?

Thanks. I'm definitely not going overboard, running costs will be a deciding factor.

I'm not looking specifically at the Edge, I was merely using it as an example to question the styling variations between models. :)

Ignore that list, it's straight from the current mondeo range on the ford website so completely irrelevant

Plenty smaller engined ones around too

Totally, I was just making the point that if you could be bothered with an older big executive saloon you'd probably not be asking us about the Mondeo Edge :)

Mondeo is a good choice here - a good blend of newness, value and reliability.

Saabs cost big money to run, as you well know, as you bailed on one ;)

Hardly big money in the grand scheme of things and thats not only why I got rid, as you well know.

You're welcome - glad my post was of some use :p

Funnily enough my oh said exactly the same when she saw me looking at Jaguar X Types :D

Think you'd struggle there, they are nice cars granted - my brother in law has one, he bought his brand new though and I don't think it was cheap. The cheapest I've found was around 5K and for that sort of money I'd also be looking else where as you could well be buying a potential money pit (imo) with a 5K Mazda 6. I'd personally stick with the Moondeo option as there's plenty for you to choose from ;)

But it isn't though as it relates to a completely different car :confused:

The Mazda6 is now almost 8 years old, I can assure you they are cheaper than £5k :confused: Just how much do you expect an 8 year old Mazda to cost :confused:
