Got a second hand 360 here which is faulty, has the 3 red rings. I got it off my cousin to try and repair, he already has another 360 he picked this one up second hand cheap.

Now I just rang microsoft to try my luck, they checked the serial number and said the console is registered to someone else. I told them that I purchased it second hand from the market, so thats why it's alredy registered, to which he advised me it will cost me £78 to transfer the console to my name! I then gave him an earful :p because I already had another xbox 360 which I purchased brand new and that also had the 3 red rings and they repaired that, I asked to speak to his manager etc and after a bit on hold he took all my detail and said...

My manager will try to contact the original owners of the console, once we have spoken to them we will then contact you, in roughly 3-4 days time. Then we will let you know what we can do.

So, anyone managed to get a second hand console not registered in their name, repaired free by microsoft?

I have I purchased it off a mate and signed up online for some reason it didn't show it was already register on there.

To transfer doesn't cost anything you just need backup from previous owner to show it wasn't stolen which why don't you just get your cousins details and then do it online.

I have as well, although they didn't even say anything about it being registered to someone else when I did it? Maybe it's because the person I got it from wasn't registered on Live?

Well I gave them the serial number, and they said it's already registered. There's no way I can get hold of the original owners details as my cousin purchased it from a second hand computer market.

I'll wait and see if they manage to contact the original owners, if not I will really push them for a free repair. If that fails I will attempt to repair it myself.
