I built my old man a brand new machine and he handed me his old one to give to my Nephew (his grandson). This will be his first proper PC. I want him to love it and not shove it in the corner and stick to his Xbox S.
I have looked at selling off the 1070 ti, the SSD's and a some other bits both my Dad and myself have kicking about to buying him a better graphics card.
Looking at the prices I could get him a 3060 ti and still have £100 left for a bigger NVME and maybe a controller, use most the budget on a 4060 ti 8GB or 3070 ti or I can throw a few more quid (no more than £40) at it and get a 4060 ti or 6800xt
He's mainly plays Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox but I'll also get him the spiderman games (he always jumps on it at my place) and want something he can play other things.
My gut is telling me to avoid the 8GB cards as I've felt the pain trying to play 4K on my 5700xt and I was all ready to buy the 4060 ti 16gb but it sounds like it was trash. I'd go for the 6800xt but i have a 5700xt and I've regretted it as I felt I missed out so much with no ray tracing etc.
What would you guys do.
The CPU is only a i7 8700 but he'll get my 3900x at some point next year and I want him to learn to upgrade it himself.
