Looking for some advice,

Just bought a second hand honda civic from a dealer here in NI. The price was very competitive and the car drove well. When I asked about previous owners I was told it was an ex fleet car. Just got the car today and on the tax slip the ex owner was ERAC or Enterprise Rent-A-Car... I'm feeling more than a little annoyed to find out that it's an ex rental. Not sure what I can do :(

Absolutely nothing unfortunately.

At the end of the day if it drives right it drives right.

Unfortunately people like me will have been doing timed laps in it all its life, but they're pretty hard wearing!

Congratulations on buying the fastest car in the world.
Realistically I would consider an ex rental car materially different to an ex fleet car and would probably try to argue this with the dealer as mis-sold to negotiate some money off or alternatively swap for a different one on their forecourt if suitable.

How much was it? You probably have less of a leg if it was only a few thousand quid.

You will have no chance of any comeback tbh. Just try proving what was said as a start....

Also, it was an ex fleet car - just a rental fleet!

12 grand, 9 months old. 11k on the clock. Not a bad idea, although I don't think they have other civics, and my wife loves the car :S

One encompasses the other - exrental is exfleet - hardly any different is it?
I wouldn't worry about it. With their £2000 collision damage excess, I bet most people drive very carefully.

As said already, it could be argued that ex-fleet does encompass ex-rental.

But if it drives nicely, then it drives nicely. Where's the problem?

Sounds like a similar situation to just finding out that the girlfriend of 8 months that you're head over heels in love with did four guys in one night at some party six years ago.

Wouldn't worry about it.

Not sure I see the problem, the price was good, the car works properly, assume it's clean and in good nick or you would have mentioned that, also the mileage must be good as that's linked to price.

/shrug

Personally I would consider this a good thing as contrary to what TopGear and CKY showed most people actually take extra care with rental cars (usually more due to fear of the damage excess than out of sense of morality) whereas nobody looks after a fleet vehicle.

For an ex rental the miles don't look bad tbh, all the ex fleets I've ever seen have moon miles.

As for having less of a leg to stand on if you paid less.. rubbish

I too would consider ex rental as different to ex fleet, but...
Are you happy with it?
Does it drive well?
Are there any issues with it?
Warranty?

If yer happy with it other than the ex rental side of things, I'd approach them and advise yer not happy with the ex rental thing and see if they'll offer anything? nothing to lose
