Second hand gtx 970 or new rx 480 ?

£100 for a second hand 970 with next to no warranty or £200 for a 480 8gb with full warranty and is faster in most games, your decision.
 
You can get an Asus 4gb 480 for £158.99 from OCUK. That's a better match to the 970 3.5Gb ;)

That would be where my money would go.
 
I wouldn't get a 8gb 480 save your money, sweet spot is the £158.99 480 4gb and a free copy of Doom, if I was looking for a midrange card, that's what I would get :)

This sounds good, 4gb is no problem at 1080p, a 3.5gb 970 does well at it so 500mb more 480 will be great

RX480, is faster, has better DX12 & Vulcan support. And also supports all the latest VR techs.
Or if you wait a month grab the 580. It fashions Polaris 10 TX2 chip with higher clocks at same price range (hence the crash of the 480 prices).
And is going to see improvements by AMD drivers "until the end of days", as is happening with the 290 since 2013 when came out.
 
Can everyone just remind me of how many DX 12 (only) games there are?

Clue you won't need more than one hand to count...
 
Isn't there six DX12 only titles?

As high res textures don't require grunt, for an extra £30, if the op holds onto a gpu for a few years, then it'd be 8Gb 480 all day long.
