Hi guys,

I just brought a second hand laptop which came with a 3 month back to base warrenty. The website said that the hinges were loose but everything else with the laptop was
in perfect working order

I found a site which explained how to fix the hinges, which I've done, all sorted.

The only problem now is the battery life. Reviews of the laptop, including battery stress tests, suggest the battery life should be about 2.5 hours, but I'm only getting and 30-40 minutes.

Is this normal? Do you guys think I have a leg to stand on getting a new battery out of the shop I brought it from?

i dont think so personally, you did buy a perfect working laptop, its not like the battery was dead. although they should have stated the battery life isnt going to perfect i.e. the time the manufacture quoted

If they said perfect working order, I would expect the battery to be at max life, even if it is second hand. So, get it resolved.

And the past tense of buy is bought, not brought.

Have you charged and discharged it a few times. When I say discharge I mean run completely flat, you need to switch off power management stuff for this.

Slightly off topic, but what make was it? My mate has a oldish (5 yrs?) Compaq and the hinges have gone on that. If I can fix them I might be able to get a drink out of him for once!

PK!
