Hey Guys,

Just wondering which parts are relatively safe to source second hand? Also what kind of percentage less than a new item do you think would make it worth any warranty difficulties that could arise?

From what I've read it seems that psu's are the things to avoid second hand because of component ageing.

cheers.

Just make sure you ask the seller to see if he has tested if, even ask if theres proof. Ive bought a few items from second hand retailers, one inparticaular was an 8800GTX. I was not properly tested and kept overheating and shutting down when on load. I had to buy a 3rd party cooler and apply thermal paste again to make it work.

Most just get things and resell without proper testing. But like people will tell you, computer parts die, quick. Always better to splash out that little bit more cash for piece of mind.

CPU's are one thing that should be fine 2nd hand (as long as they havn't been abused by overcloking @ high volts), I do buy 2nd hand CPU's and Graphics cards because then I know how much it will overclock. I think you prob should be paying 2/3's of the price new, but it does depend how popular the item is and if any warranty is valid.

I noticed Q6600 G0 are going for between 70 and 90 on the bay but there're a lot of stock photos rather than images of the actual cpu.
