second hand pc for linux

i've said my son can have my gaming machine as i no longer use it for gaming, i only use a pc for general browsing the nett and occasionally watching i player.
so i thought of getting a cheap second hand pc that i can rum linux mint on.
any idea of what sort of spec i should be looking at ,i'm not planning on running any games at all , maybe even a small shuttle will do i have a monitor and keyboard so will just need a base unit :)

The last time I used linux on a seperate (second hand) PC I had the following spec.

AMD XP2800+. 3Gb PC3200, 160Gb HDD, DVD RW, this was very capable and a similar spec would run most linux distros today. You can get most of the above for a few pounds each searching around although later gear may in fact be as cheap or cheaper.

Forget the Atom and Sempron if you want to do anything. I jumped on the ITX bandwagon when the Intel Atom was released and it's a horrible painfully slow thing. Especially the single core 230. If you must get Atom, get the 330 dual core, the D510 dual core and/or the D525 dual core.
