Hey all.

As its coming up to xmas i was thinking of getting my brother a 2nd hand ps4 with 2 controllers and fifa 17.

Is it worth going this route, any pitfalls from buying second hand at all.

Dont think he would ever go play online, and wont get many games i think just probably fifa 17, fallout 4 potentially and if star wars battefront was single player or co-op with 2 ppl on same console maybe that too i dunno.

Saw some on MM for £100-140 but no games and controllers or 1 controller.

Dunno if its a good deal or not as what if its banned online (for updates if needed) or its bricked if thats possible these days or games crash after a hour play or somit.

Thoughts? Also is ps4 still better than xbox one these days?

Its a great time to pick up a pre owned console with folk upgrading to the pro.

No if previous owner deletes profile and wipes it then its good as new. No obsticles going 2nd hand from a user perspective.

Its not like the early Xbox days where flashing the drive was quite common. I would suggest most will not have that issue but like everything check seller feedback/trust.

PS4 is a great console. Can't go wrong with either that or Xbox though.

PS4 probably has the stonger 2017 line up but FIFA 17 on Xbox has Ultimate Team legends if thats something your bro might be into.

Is Gumtree a good place to buy from or try get a deal from here in mm. What price should I expect for a ps4 500gb good condition with 2 pads if possible and Fifa 17? Seen one with controller for £150 on Gumtree. But dunno if that's a good deal or not. Is there any revisions of the ps4 I should avoid?

I would hold out until the blackfriday deals are over, as they were selling PS4 for £150 not long ago due to the release of the PS4 slim. Hopefully they will do the same ....

You can currently get the 1 TB PS4 slim with 3 games (Uncharted 4, Drive Club and The Last Of Us) for £240.

I see that as console costing about £200.

So for me a 2nd hand 500GB one needs to be close to £120 for it to seem like a decent deal. Especially as I bought a brand new 500 GB C chassis with a physical copy of FIFA 17 for £150 a month or so ago.

As stated, I'd wait for black Friday deals. Download the UKHD app for your phone and keep and eye on there for the best deals.

Amazon sell Sony refurbs with warranty if you look at warehouse deals. Sometimes they are decent, other times they a more than new. But worth keeping an eye on.

Also bear in mind that CEX buys 500GB PS4's for just over £100 cash, so don't expect anyone to be selling for less than that at the moment.

If you do go for a used one then buy a C chassis, easy to tell them they have an all matt finish. The earlier models run a hotter, louder and use more power. They have a glossy hard drive cover on one side.

Rumours are Argos will be selling PS 4 slim with two games (Uncharted 4 & FIFA 17) for £199.

Friday only.

Worth keeping an eye on.

Went to game they have some ps4 b grade for £159 with Fifa 16. Seems a bit much to me. Was in a uncharted box but that game doesn't come with it. If that £199 is true I might get that u really hope it has two pads cos I mean most consoles in 90s and I think 00s always came with 2 cos most Ppl had a friend or family member for multiplayer. How come most ps4 ones I've seen just come with 1 controller? Seems dumb especially if u get a footy game with console.

It'll almost certainly be one controller. A controller adds £40-£50 to the price. If you want to play local co-op you're going to have to buy another one.

How come they are so expensive, controllers I mean
Can get a SNES pad USB from aliexpress for like £4 delivered. £40 for ps4 pad, eesh.

It's been one controller in the box since the original PlayStation days, more or less. The PS 3 super slim had a twin controller bundle, but that was towards the end of the PS 3's lifespan.

Compared to a snes pad though there's a little more going on.

You do get the occasional deal but they hold their value because people have to buy them if they want to co-op or replace.

I'm not keen on buying second-hand, if you know who you're buying it from that's different but otherwise you never quite know what you're getting and how it has been treated.

My first PS4 started randomly ejecting discs for no reason after about 4 months, Amazon didn't offer the same bundle by this point so gave me a full refund and I went to Argos and bought a cheaper bundle with more games, result.

As has been said, I'd just pick up a deal on Black Friday.

I bought my PS4 second hand from an OCUK member back in december 2014. Worked flawlessley.

I appreciate it was pretty new when I bought it but I think most 2nd hand PS4 consoles will be OK if bought from a reputable place (for example MM on here).

How much are you looking to spend?

With some of the bundles out there at the moment it hardly makes sense buying second hand. Even if you don't want the games you can often sell them and end up with the console and controller for a similar price to what you'd pay second hand. Peace of mind if something goes wrong too.
