Hi there guys would you be able to recommend a good 5.1 receiver? I mainly going to use it for music and some movies. I'm not really into atmos/DTS. I've found Yamaha dsp Ax2 quiet cheap (50pounds). Any ideas if it's any good?

Also any other recommendations for a receiver under 100 pounds, second hand. I dont have cash at the moment to spend on new receiver and my old one just decided to make static noise.

I wouldn't get a AVR as old as the A1, after 20 years it may need a service.
Mine still works perfectly and if I hadn't needed 2 HDMI input would still use it as it sounds far better than the yamaha rxv1073 that replaced it. The only weakness is the display other than that they're made to last

I sold my denon avr x2000 for £100. Was a good unit for that price. There is lots about if you don't care about more modern stuff too much.

I've found Denon 1911 for 100 pounds locally. However, the seller has said "There is no hissing popping or dead channels but it needs good ventilation as gets quite warm when playing music loudly and then cuts out if too hot. Good ventilation solves this though", which got me thinking that it has cut on him. So could this cause any damage? I'm aware that there is a protection mode built in to prevent permanent damage. He is happy to show it working. Although is there anything I need to look out for? I know if a receiver has a burned smell not to buy it but is there anything else?

I have a Yamaha 763 AV amp and it's done sterling service. Only two HDMI in though but I run my sky box to it via optical so have had PlayStation, Xbox and a bluray player connected at various times. Supports the lossless standards short of Atmos too. Less than £100 online these days.

If you don't need HDMI then get the yamaha. Just watch out it doesn't have the display issue. The A1 second hand value seems to be going up now

Don't waste your money on a dying AVR.
