Anyone see the report on Channel 4 news last night on Second Life? On how we were all going to be playing it in the future because a few companies and an embassy have bought a presence there, and how some lawyer in Germany became the second person to become a rl millionaire by selling stuff in Second Life :(

Man I want that game to fail so badly :( Does anyone here actually play it and why?

Never played it and never really wanted to.

The idea of making a million in real life out of the sad folk that take it seriously, almost appealed to me enough to convince me to try it. But then I realised I'd have to become extremely sad myself for that to work.

No interest what so ever... I like my life, so I dont need to get a second one to distract from the fact that my real life sucks

The graphics in Second Life make WoW look like Crysis. An appalling "game" filled with the worst kind of social deviants you can imagine.

so its just a bunch of gaming-illiterate people "logging on" so that they can say in the elitist social circle that they are a "gamer"?

More than a gamer. Such as at work, one departments wants us to have a secondlife presence and have even conducted meetings in secondlife, they've fallen for the illusion that secondlife is important or holds any weight in the RL. A good website would do a company a lot more good than an expensive secondlife presence.

I dont really understand why companies would choose to have a meeting on a game.

If i was dealing with a company which did this, i wouldnt be doing business with them! lol

So exactly what cpu do you have if Amd and Intel are out of the reckoning :p

Seriously though just because the graphics may be a bit clunky at the moment , how is this any differnent to hosting a team meeting on webcams or a conference call on the phone ?

Lack of visual cues from facial expression, lack of aural cues from intonation etc :p. It just seems like an extra layer to a meeting without having any benefit over that of either a face-to-face meeting or that of a web conference/conference call.

Yeah you might as well do it in Messenger.

I guess the only real attraction to it is that you can make serious amounts of cash if you know what you're doing.

Jokester

I dont know of anyone who plays this. Must be the only game in the world that claims to be the most popular and I dont know of anyone who plays it.

Cant see the point may as well throw your life into wow at least it has some semblance of entertainment.

the media are always a few steps behind ppl who actually follow the industry, second life the the most overated thing since garlic bread.

p.s. i'm joking about the GB :)

Ditto

Plus, what exactly defines it as a game any way?

It's a real-time, social networking website.
