Second monitor but dont have room for widescreen

Hi, i have a 23" syncmaster, 1080 wide screen . i am wanting a second monitor for streaming info but dont realy have room for a second wide screen however i would like a monitor that looks the same size (hight) so then there is no step in the desktop what size standard monitor should i been looking for?
 
17" I believe - I had a 22" monitor (similar to you) and my 17" Dell monitor lined up pretty much perfectly.
 
I have a 20" 1680x1050 Dell 2009W and a 17" 1280x1024 Dell somethingsomething (looks the same but 4:3) and they line up perfectly.

Unsure if this helps as it contradicts the above. :p
 
Yeah mine was a 1080p widescreen Acer monitor 22" - I have a 24" now and there's a small gap but not too much
 
1280x1024 is a decent resolution. I'm using one at the moment (at work) and I could live with it if I had to. :p
 
When not streaming would the extra monitor work for games, the res would be 1280 x 1024 and 1900 x 1080
would they work with the res been a little different
