Hi all :D

been on this site as non member for some time, finally decided to sign up.

at the moment, the PC does everything quite well, but the aim is to play BF4 in 4K on a single monitor. i believe LG is shipping 24" 4K monitor early next year, so still some time to go.

The original plan was to get 2 7990 in cf, but then i read the first card would be uber/inoperably hot without going water. at the same time, i read certain review site had no problem cf 7990 with 7970, so i think i will settle with that. Now reading the new R9 290X is making me think about the strategy again....

so heres what i read so far and these are the basis for my thoughts:
1. the website i mentioned compared the 7990/70 combo against titan sli and on newer games, both set up is around the same.
2. there are certain sites that suggest 290X will be around 600USD so thats roughly 450-500quid (somewhat in line with OCUK hint).
3. 290X is roughly the performance of titan, so two should roughly give the same performance as titan sli.

my current budget is around 650, so couple of options
1. stick with original plan and grab a 7990 with some cash to spare (which i will probably end up modding the 7970 to use AIO water)
2. sell the 7970 then grab two 290x (probably bf4 edition) and sell a copy of BF4.

(my only concern is that when AMD did the demo for BF4, they were using two 7990 in cf but "only" managed to run BF4 in 3K. so may be it's just not the time to throw all these money into it?)

what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance :D

PS: really not bothered by these audio stuff that comes with 290X :D

Now is definitely not the time to throw money at 4k in my opinion. Look at crysis 3, Tomb Raider or Metro Last Light: a titan (or a r9 290x according to the leaked benchmarks) can't even get 30fps at 2560x1600 with some AA. So do we therefore seriously expect even 3 or 4 of them in sli/xfire to getdecent frames at 4k on next gen titles?

Bear in mind the games listed above are all on current gen consoles as well...

Thanks guys. Any thoughts on the choice?

Im leaning more and more towards 7990 because it comes with all the games as well. Might be cheaper option at the end.
