second pci-e cable gone

It's your gamble to take, might be just fine. If the pinouts are wired correctly it shouldn't be a problem.

Bit hard to lose spare cables(they gotta be somewhere right?), unless you're in the habit of throwing stuff out without checking what it is and for, i'd be inclined to just start digging around for the cables.

yeah the risk is too big so i might aswell buy new psu. I didnt lose the cable per se but i rather borrowed it and the dude sold it with his pc without telling me

Check on the corsair site to see type number cables you need. It's probably type 4. You can buy an additional PCIe cable from the Corsair website for £3.99
If the worst comes to worst I can let you have one. I have tons of them lying around. If you go to packlink and arrange Hermes to collect the parcel from me it should be about £4. I only have type 4.

Incidentally, some of the cables I have came from RM650's so I am pretty sure your cables are Type 4 but I am not saying that cus I don't want to implicate myself!!

Oh I just read your last post. Yes, I can understand. I have substituted cables before and know that its seriously worrying. Yes, it's a lot of money but the consequences of getting wrong are too horrible to contemplate. If you look at the Corsair website forum, plenty of people do get it wrong and it wipes out their entire PC and PSU in one impressive puff of smoke.

that guy from amazon link i posted claims that its going to work with corsair rm650 im not sure if i should trust him tho but hey thanks for the write up

You could order the one from Amazon and compare it side by side with your original cable to make sure each wire goes to the same place on the connector. If it doesn't then it's easy enough to swap the wires in the connectors around. The cable itself seems to be ok, 16AWG wire would have been better but many drop to 18AWG on the pci-e leads anyway. I wouldn't replace a perfectly good psu if I could easily get a replacement cable, just compare the pinouts side by side.

yes will do, ive done deep research on the subject and i got a general idea how to test em etc just to be safe. thanks for the help
