My partner was streaming a movie from the computer today, movie stopped and upon investigation the pc was off! It was practically idle in windows before hand, card wasn't overclocked.

The computer wouldn't post, the fans would budge a little but nothing substantial. After a few swearies i threw in a new PSU to no luck same result! Fans would spin for 1 sec. Should have attempted this first hand but went to clear cmos and nothing still.

So i decided to start stripping power requirements down and first off i removed the gfx card and it booted! Both PSU's work fine too. However after trying everything i could do, it appears the computer will not power on if the Asus 7950 TOP connected to both PCIe cables from the PSU?! If i remove the PCie cables it'll spin the fans and post (Built in gfx card) and if i have just the one furthest away plugged in it would post.

I'm dropping a friends graphics card in mine tonight, and trying the asus top in his, but anyone seen this before? Gutted as it's the second 7950 in 2 weeks. :\

In a nutshell - Asus top in and no pcie cables connected it posts, 1 pcie connected it posts, 2 connected no power to the computer.

Same result on two psu's guys. Xfx 850w pro and ocz zs 750w

I just wanted to make sure they had enough power and not something silly like 250W.

Have you tried moving the GPU to the 2nd PCI-E slot? Also strip down everything to the minimum required. (1 HDD/1 stick of memory and the GPU).

Again not meaning to sound daft but you have connected the 4 pin socket from the PSU into the top left of the MOBO (I forget this sometimes myself).

I should have posted the PSU's to be fair anyhow. :)

Yep i've tried moving it to the secondary slot, still the same issue. And yeah the 4 pin cable is in. I'll strip it down bit by bit if the card works in my friends later tonight.

The pc as a whole is around 9 months old never had any issues other than this and my previous 7950 which was borked on arrival. It's just come out of the blue.

You seem to know what you are doing and trying it in your friends is great. Maybe you are just unlucky but bloody harsh if you are :(

Well tried a Radeon 4870 in mine and it's fine. Couldn't test the card in my friends as it was far to big for his case. But it definitely appears it's the card, shorting out or something. Shame, and poor luck. :(
