Hey guys,

I've ran a line from my main Modem/router downstairs to a new wireless router upstairs, which i am going to configure as a bridge.

When selecting the wireless options, I gives me the option to change it to these:

AP
Station-infrastructure
AP Bridge- Point to point
AP Bridge- Point to multi point
AP Bridge- WDS
Universal repeater

What is the best option. I know AP and system infra will not be suited but out of the rest which one should i choose? and what is the difference?

I will have multiple devices connecting to this router, i want it to pretty much extend the range of my router downstairs.

Any insite?

Cheers.

It sounds like you do want it configured as an access point. If you've connected it back to the main router with a cable I can't see any other sensible way it could be configured.

If you're going to configure it as a bridge then what's it going to bridge to?

Im not too sure, i just assumed that i was talking about the access point. Access point does seem like the right idea actually, i have it a quick google and it came back with repeater, but access point seems right, thanks.

Ive set it to AP! it works.

but it is showing as two separate access points is there any way i can use it so it just has the same SSID as my original router? instead of 2.

I doesn't let me change individual settings for the wireless. just for the lan. I tried changing the Lan ip address to match the default gateway of my router downstairs but it doesn't work.

what exactly do i need to change?

You don't need to mess with the addressing. Change the SSID, encryption type and encryption key to match the other router. Set them to different channels (1, 6 or 11).

You should be able to change the necessary settings, I'm yet to see a router where you can't. What model is the router?

edimax br-6226N. ill try those settings, i did try that but i changed the channel to 10, so thats probably why it didnt work. ill give it a go cheers.
