Just a quick clarification needed.

Have just received another notice of intended prosecution for my Wife speeding (Both cars are in my name). Will obviously fill it out and name her.

Less than a month ago she attended a Speed Awareness Course for her first offence (36 in a 30), the latest offence is 39 in a 30 - assume this will be 3 Points and Fine?

Assume as soon as Points are on wife's license (assume we get a letter to say fine paid, points added?), I just ring my insurance companies and let them know:
- Does this count as a change to policy - therefore subject to an admin charge?
- Does this instantly affect premium (e.g. could I be liable for the difference: I have one policy on monthly payment so not an issue, but the other is paid annually?)
- Will it make much difference come renewal time?

Thanks

If she's already done a course then yes it'll be points and fine.

I was always told that you only have to tell your insurance at renewal regarding points for speeding however every insurer is different and probably worth you reading the small print or giving them a call. No doubt your premium will go up slightly as she'll be in a 'higher' risk bracket now.

Don't you get the original points added from the SAC offense too?

Pretty sure that's what they told me if I sped again the next 12 months from doing it.

3 points likely won't do anything to your premium but does need to be declared. 6 points however will likely make some difference.

Generally you'll get the SAC instead of points. They don't start queuing them up and dump 6 on you after that.

Pretty sure the letter with the "choice" of SAC / Fine / Court said something along the lines, if you attend the SAC no further action will be taken and no points will be given.

Glad to see the SAC works...

You and me both - think it was £90 for the SAC - clearly money well spend :)

Tell your wife to stop speeding. Cant she use her eyes and see a speed camera or a Police van? is she blind to the road ahead or is it just blind to the rules ? :P

3 points wont make a difference to insurance cost. Mine actually went DOWN by about £30 when renewal time came along :P

I see what you did there :)

However nothing dodgy at all - I am the registered keeper of both my car and her car, so the NIP came to me. I wasn't driving her car at the time, as I was at work.

Realistically, I could probably say it was me and go a SAC myself, but I assume a photo may identify her, and out of principle she needs to have the points.

Unlikely she would see the road safety van, as it is normally located following a blind bend. Clearly the school run was that important that 9mph made all the difference!

I have no sympathy for her getting points but realistically most of us speed at some point, just a question of whether you get caught.

Sounds like you've got her back....

Unplug the MAF sensor. I found that works well for making the car go slow (I did it by mistake one day after changing the air filter). But there will be engine malfunction warnings all over the place :P
