It seems whenever I try to fit in a second stick of RAM, I have problems. MY PC isn't operating properly. I play Civ, and it works super slow and 4 gig should be way more than enough. When I take the second stick out everything is fine. I had the same problem with 2*1Gig.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium and no matter where I position the sticks the problem persists. I'm running XP Home.

Ta!

Try running memtest on each stick individually and in each slot.
Also check that the voltages and speeds are set right in the bios.

Yeah if your memtest passes individually and in each slot then maybe your memory is stressing your MCH and you may need to up the voltage or a different PSU.

Spec?

It picks up errors that memtest86 misses. Prime95 isn't too bad at it, but the problem with it is that it's usually CPU bound so won't hammer the memory as hard as it could. OCCT has separate CPU and RAM test modes.

Another thing I've found that picks up memory instabilities really well is 64-bit Linux + SMP folding. It'll generally lock up within a few minutes if the memory is anywhere near unstable.
