Second time 360 owner

Ive just picked up a 360 slim but im a little worried about the poor thing!

I had an original 360 and can remember it being pretty loud and this slim one is also quite loud in comparison to my ps3 slim. Is that normal?
Also, the temperature of the top of this xbox seems quite hot to the touch, I was under the impression these slims ran a lot cooler?

I dont have much faith in these things but id like to give it a chance

Thanks for the reply, yeah its when playing a game from the inserted disc. When i was filling out the registration screens for the live trial it was quiet.
Fingers crossed itll last to atleast let me play some exclusives ive missed out on so far
