Secondary display keeps turning off

I have my TV plugged into my PC with a DVI - HDMI cable and I've set it up to be my extended secondary monitor and have a media player loaded on the TV screen to play stuff on.

When I switch TV off for a while, then switch it back on its not getting a signal from the PC anymore. I have to disable then reenable extended desktop to get the signal going again.

Anyway to keep the signal going?

Which OS?

I would look in to your power settings - if it's being left then difficult to get back on i'd imagine it has gone in to standby or something.

Using windows xp.

Power settings are set to not switch off anything.
and my main monitor never switches off. I don't know why the signal stops going to the secondary monitor which is the TV, if you switch off the TV for a few minutes, and doesn't come back on when switched on again.
