I have been given from my work an oldish ASUS windows tablet which was no longer required. I can do what I like with it but I have a bit of an issue, I can't get into windows...

There is an administrator log in but sadly they don't have a record of the password as it was setup by a member of the IT department who has since left and who was very slap dash about these things.

There is nothing on the tablet I want to keep, so I figured I'd just do a reset back to factory setup and start afresh. However, when I go into the trouble shooting options (shift and restart from the login screen) when I select reset it asks me for the installation media to continue.

I'm now not really sure what to do. Is there a way I can wipe everything clean and install windows from scratch from a microSD card?

If you can boot it from USB - a Kali linux live 'CD' will allow you to edit the SAM file and clear the password.

There's plenty of guides online for this process, so I'll not post it here - the sticking point though, is getting your device to boot off external media...

Best of luck though
