Securely wipe an android phone?

I've just sold my android phone and want to ensure that everything is wiped from it and the memory card before I send it.

Is there an option in the settings?

Settings.....Privacy......Factory Reset

You'll also need to format memory card.

That will delete everything yes?

Will that also restore the original ROM/Firmware or will it still have my custom firmware? (this sounds like a stupid question - but i just want to be sure)

I would reflash the stock firmware and give it to them 'as new' after having factory reset and formatted memory. Then even if they were determined, a lot of the data that was yours would probably be overwritten anyway. Unless you advertised it with custom firmware.

To be specific:

You can format memory cards from within android under settings > SD card > Format SD card.
A Factory reset will reset back to the ROMs starting default. It will NOT restore the default firmware, it will only delete user based settings. You need to re-flash it with the generic stock ROM for it to be back to the start so to speak.
