Anyone got any suggestions as to how this can be done efficiently? I'm selling off my old PC and want to wipe the hard-drives, I've tried DBAN on a USB stick and it crashes before it actually starts wiping the drives. I've also tried another app (KillDisk) that should work via a USB drive but for some reason the PC doesn't detect the drive as bootable, even though it did boot with DBAN on it.

Utterly stupid amount of hassle so far for something so simple. Any better ideas?

Thanks. :)

Hiren's BootCD has Active KillDisk on it so you could use that, it's an excellent program. I have the suite installed on my system since I have a dock for plugging HDD's into. Another option (albeit more expensive) is Wipedrive by WhiteCanyon, I use this too and again is a great piece of kit to have.

Thanks for the suggestions all, but I need to be able to boot from USB with it.

I've managed to get Active KillDisk to boot from USB but the free version only does a single passes of zeros, which is no good.

May have sussed it, used DBAN in autonuke mode and it hasn't crashed. Did mean it wanted to nuke my brand new flash drive too, but I've pulled it out and it seems to be carrying on with the HDDs happily.

Ah handy to know then :)

How many passes? I have run the 35 pass one before and it was totally clean.

35 passes! how long did that take!
