Damn sister has purchased an Iphone and now wants to use Face Time.

Damn app needs to run over wifi, so looks like me trying to secure the router as much is possible is out the window, as I now have to turn on my wifi.

What I'v done is turn the encryption to wpa2 and disabled the ssid broadcast.

I also turned this off: Allow multicast from Broadband Network. Any one know what that does?

I was thinking of also implimenting mac authentication on the router as well, any one know if the Tomson 585 v7 can do this?

Here are my settings (I'v blanked the key and the interface isnt currently enabled:

Configuration

Interface Enabled: No
Physical Address:
Network Name (SSID):
Interface Type: 802.11b/g
Actual Speed: 54 Mbps
Band: 2.4G Hz
Channel Selection: Auto
Region: Europe
Channel: 6
Allow multicast from Broadband Network: No

Security

Broadcast Network Name: No
Allow New Devices: New stations are allowed (automatically)
Security Mode: WPA-PSK
WPA-PSK Preshared Key:
WPA-PSK Encryption: AES
WPA-PSK Version: WPA2

Would be nice to chage Allow New Devices: New stations are allowed (automatically) too mac authentication...

Anything else I can do to tighten it up? (Other than turn it off! LOL)

Yeah, WPA2 - AES seems to be the top preferred method of security. MAC filtering just makes things messy when you want to add devices later on and doesn't really provide much security anyway.

Thanks for that.

The passphrase I currently have is 39 characters long.....

Should be strong enough.

Problem with using a tool such as the one you linked too is that its easy to cut and paste in to the router, but not much fun when you need to type it in to the device connecting to the wireless!

Anyway, the only reason why I against having the wireless on in the first place, is becuase I want as much performance out of the router and dont want it allocating bendwidth or resources to the wireless.

The computer in the house are all wired connection to the router, but now I need to enable the wireless for sisters Iphone....
