Ok I want to secure my PC. I had the full McAfee security installed and it made my old comp lag like a ..well you know

I want my computer to stay very fast (it is a intel dual core 3.4ghz) and secure.

At the moment I have partioned the HDD, 50gb for system files and 200 for everything else. Now I want to secure it, so far I thought spybot + avg (as they both use minimal resources).

Does anyone have any recommendations for any speed and security software/tips?

Thank you!

nod32 antivirus
spywareblaster
windows firewall

have spybot & adaware installed too and run manual scans from time to time

Using a Hardware Firewall is pritty much all the firewall you need. As said;

NOD32 or AVG
Hardware Firewall + Windows Firewall
Spyware Blaster
Spybot
Adaware
Ewido (for trojans?)

Try using nothing?

If your behind a NAT router you really don't need a software firewall.

Both spyware and viruses are easily enough avoided with common sense. Keep you OS upto date with patches and don't open random attachments or run/install things unless you know them to be clean.

I occasionally install a virus checker out of curiousity but then after finding nothing its promptly uninstalled again. Similarly so with anti-spyware stuff, it exaggerates a few cookies it finds and then it gets uninstalled.
