Security guards - bad experience

As an ex bouncer this sounds far too much like making their own lives difficult. Much easier just to sling you out on your ear if they believed there was an issue.

For that reason "I'M OOT!"
I can’t understand why they never. Crazy

This is why nobody believes you, me included.

Nobody in their right mind would be such a wet blanket that after being locked up for 2 hours in a basement, the police arrive and instead of going crazy to press charges against the bouncers for false imprisonment, you just said 'Oh ok officer' and went home? Yea sure. If that's what really happened then you need to grow a pair.
Of course I didn’t just say oh ok officer, I was furious I was in there for two hours.

I kept saying to the police, I want to take this further as this can’t be legal and the officers reply was “there just doing there job” and said they can keep me detained until police arrive if they believe a domestic issue has happened.

I kept saying how can I take this further and they kept saying right a complaint to the bar, only to find out the next day the bar won’t do anything and are saying go to the police, it’s like a dead end

Trust me by no means did I just say “oh ok” that’s when I’m still trying to fight it now as it’s never right but feel like I’m running out of options.

I no some people may not believe me but this is honestly what happened, look at the link I sent on the reviews of the place. There are moaning about the bouncers

Were you arguing with your wife before this happened, or talking in loud or raised voices?

We need more facts.
We were both sat on a shared table in the venue, we were having a great evening, no raised voices, nothing. We are both very happy

The police said it was two other people that raised alarm, which I’m guessing is people at the shared table and for some reason done this, why I have no idea

Omg haha

Welcome to OcUK?

If what you're saying is true, I would suggest not letting it go. I certainly wouldn't. Contact the SIA and complain and do not let the Police fob you off. There should be a way to complain about their behavior, if you feel they've treated you poorly. Maybe contact citizens advice?

I'm not saying I believe this happened. But if it did, how much time and effort are you willing to put in to achieve 'justice', so to speak?
Thanks for the advice and helpful replies

Can I just ask why u don’t believe this happened, I have no reason to make this up and the fact that people don’t believe it makes me think how crazy it is that this happened and just wish I could take it further

I admit it does sound crazy and I didn’t think this sort of thing could happen just by other people at our table making up rubbish

I did get the officers that come out that night to call me back and there refusing to do anything else about it. I actually said surly this is false impressment or something and he just kept saying how they can hold the public and there just doing there job until we get there

How can I get the police to do anything else about it, do I ask for different officers to look at it and what do u suggest and do u think the press would be interested in this

Do you know what code Angela is? If a woman feels threatened by a man she's with then she can make an Angela reference to the staff - typically "is Angela working tonight". The staff are then meant to take you somewhere safe and secure and call the police if you or they feel it's necessary.

Perhaps your wife felt like you were harassing her and used code Angela to get away from you.
As explained that certainly is not the case I have been with my wife 11 years and have a great marriage

The police said it never come from my wife it come from two people in the bar which I’m guessing was at our shared table

Just a wee update

Thanks for the advice giving

The press are very interested in this story line and they are sending photographers to our house at 5pm tonight

I will keep you guys updated and so you can see it in the papers, hopefully this will help some people on here to that this did actually happen

Again, I wonder how the self-defence argument would go in this scenario; if some random person in the street jumped on me and pinned me to the floor for no reason* then I certainly wouldn't just lie there passively and let them do whatever they wanted with me!

* e.g. in the case of mistaken identity, there would be "no reason" as far as I was aware

There's a key requirement within that legislation:

"A person other than a constable may arrest without a warrant—

(a)anyone who is in the act of committing an indictable offence;

(b)anyone whom he has reasonable grounds for suspecting to be committing an indictable offence."

Assuming the OP's story is true, then this incident occurred purely on the word of a random stranger at their table saying something to the bouncer.

I certainly wouldn't want to be the person trying to justify that to a judge as "reasonable grounds"!

I was locked in a basement kinda room

The bouncers classes it us being detained

There saying two different people mentioned it to them, I’m guessing two people at our shared table

Which newspaper national or a local?

Are you certain that you or your Mrs didn't do anything to warrant the situation you found yourself in?
National

I’m 100% we were having a great night together and this just come out of the blue by two random people talking rubbish

So the press just called and they checked the incident with the police and there saying a formal complaint against the bouncers has not been raised but when the officers on duty called me they said I can’t take it further cos they were just doing there job

Press is still coming at 5pm for photos apparently and hoping I get an official crime reference number so they can publish

I called the police back and now the Sargent of the officers is giving me a call back

Press seem to think this is never right and also not legal them denying me a subject access report of the footage

See what happens when they call I guess

Just had someone else from the press now interested in this story

All just wanting a crime reference, surly can’t be hard getting this. Can’t believe when the press called the police they said no formal complaint was made against the bouncer

+1 - it wouldn't be possible to make a defence in this instance that it was reasonable to lock up 2 people in 2 separate rooms for over 2hours. hence why i don't believe it happened. the bouncers would be opening themselves and the business up to all sorts of legal come back. to be honest, if the story is true i might get myself over to that bar and see if i can 'engineer' a way to get my self locked up too - the compo claim would be pretty tasty. :p
Well I’m glad the think that, I’ll be taking this all the way

all the way where? you've already said the police have given you the cold shoulder so where you gonna go with it now?
Waiting on the sergeant calling, there’s a starting point

Surly I’m able to get a crime reference number, that will open the story to the press to publish

You get in there Gary - I am sure all the nationals will be queing up to publish this.

Have you considered TV yet ? Sky News will cover any old rubbish important breaking news like this, I am sure.

Also once the BBC have verified everything - they will be in like a shot.
Not a bad idea actually, mybe this morning would be interested too
