Security issues with firefox add-ons

Are there any secuirty issues with firefox add-ons?

Can they compromise your system?

I'm on about the add-ons you download from mozillas site.

Yes they can. You rely on the community to spot the bugs and make sure you download the updates and install them regularly.

I'd recommend installing only the add-ons you need, and uninstall ones you've don't really use - easier to manage. That goes for any software - only install what you need and keep it up to date.

There's always a chance a vulnerability could be found in a piece of software and then exploited which could then allow the attacker to gain hold of the system. A good way to mitigate the risk is to make sure you are keeping your software up to date and also make sure you're running as a standard user.
